We smoke to order and we fry to order, so we do not make much we have not already sold. But a market day is a guess, and some days the guess is wrong. Rather than throw good food away, we put it on Too Good To Go at the end of the day.
How it works
You buy a Surprise Bag on the app for a fraction of what the food costs on the day. You do not choose what is in it. That is the deal, and it is the reason it is cheap.
You collect it from our stall, in the window the app gives you. We do not deliver these and we cannot hold them past the window, because the next person is waiting.
What might be in a bag
It changes every time, because it depends on what is actually left. It could be any of:
- Cold karkade, our hibiscus drink, in whatever flavours we brewed that week
- Sudanese tameah, our falafel
- Halal beef bacon from the smokehouse
- Whatever else came off the smoker that day
Everything in a bag has been held cold or frozen the whole time it was with us. We do not put food in a Surprise Bag that has been sitting out on a hot stall all morning. If it would not be safe for us to sell it to you at full price, it does not go in a bag either.
Allergens. Please read this part.
A Surprise Bag is a surprise, which means you cannot pick around an allergy. You will not know what is in it until you open it.
Our food is made in a kitchen that handles peanut (in our shatta be dakwa), sesame (in our garlic tahini), wheat, milk and egg, on shared equipment and in shared oil. We cannot promise any item is free of traces of any of them.
If you or anyone eating this has a serious food allergy, please do not buy a Surprise Bag. Come to the stall instead and we will tell you exactly what is in everything, and sell you the thing that is safe for you. We would much rather have that conversation than get this wrong.
Halal, always
Everything we make is halal. No pork, no alcohol, no exceptions, and that does not change because something is discounted.
What is not in a bag
Our dried karkade is shelf stable and never goes to waste, so it is not part of this and it is not discounted here. If you want that, it is on the store at the normal price.
Catering is quoted separately and is not part of this either.
Why we bother
Partly because throwing away food you got up at four in the morning to make is a miserable thing to do. Partly because someone who has never heard of us gets to try it for a few dollars and decide for themselves.
